Carolyn Edwards will be leading a day on The Spirituality of Boys as part of Midlands CYM continuing professional and ministerial development programme. The day will be based on research examining how children, in particular boys, engage with and express their spirituality. It explores how children might use ‘spiritual connections’, and seeks to identify whether there is a gender bias to these ‘connections’. The issues will be explored practically as well as theoretically, considering what effect gender has on spirituality, and how this might influence the work that we do in spiritual development. It's on Monday 7th December 2009 at St Johns, Nottingham from 10am to 3.30pm and costs £15 including lunch / £10 if MCYM graduate, tutor or placement. Book in advance with Gill Benson, MCYM, St John’s College, Nottingham. Tel: 0115 9683222 or email mcym@stjohns-nottm.ac.uk. Download a flyer about the day
Jo Fitzsimmons from FYT will be leading a day on Eating Disorders and Self Harm at the Diocesan Office in Harborne on Saturday 6 February 2010, again from 10am to 3:30pm. Tickets cost £10 including lunch. Self Harm is often a subject youth workers are frightenedby – this training aims to help you consider yourresponse from having ‘a hunch’ a young person is self harming, knowing best practice procedures and supporting young people coping with self injury. The Eating Distress training will focus ontriggers, causes, and understanding how to – and not to – respond to teenagers who struggle with issues around food. It will help you consider how you plan food on residentials, how you use food in youth work and how teenagers facing this issue might respond. It’ll give you tools to consider your response to eating disorders. To book contact Jelena Cammack at jelena@birmingham.anglican.org or 0121 426 0435. Download a flyer about the day
